Janelle - Grief therapist

Janelle McSweeney, BCYC

Grief, loss, and major life transitions change us. Whether it comes through death, divorce, health challenges, estrangement, career loss, or unmet expectations, grief can feel isolating, overwhelming, and deeply confusing. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Janelle brings 15 years of experience in the human services field, working with clients in a variety of settings including treatment facilities, residential care, shelters, and private counselling offices. Janelle currently supports adults navigating any type of grief and loss by delivering the Grief Recovery Method®, which is a 7 session program delivered in either individual or group settings. Janelle uses this program to offer compassionate, structured support for individuals experiencing unresolved emotional pain connected to loss. She believes that tending to grief with care can open the door to meaningful transformation.

Drawing from Somatic Experiencing® principles, Janelle supports clients in gently reconnecting with their nervous systems and restoring a sense of internal safety. Because grief lives not only in our thoughts, but in our bodies, sessions may include grounding practices, embodied awareness, and nature-informed interventions that can help clients feel safer and more resourced as they heal.

Clients often describe Janelle as warm, thoughtful, flexible, and deeply attuned. Janelle offers a safe, gentle space where grief, uncertainty and overwhelm are met with understanding and compassion. Janelle’s work is grounded in relational, client-centered care-supporting people so they can speak the unspeakable, honour the complexity of their loss, and move forward at a pace that works for them without leaving their love behind.
